Epson ET-2800 / ET-2803 · Follow the pattern

Epson EcoTank
printing blank pages?

Print one nozzle check before you clean.

A page generated by the printer itself is a useful dividing line. A complete pattern points you toward the document or app. Missing lines point you toward printer maintenance. Visible ink alone cannot tell you which path to take.

For an Epson EcoTank ET-2800 or ET-2803 that feeds paper but leaves it blank or nearly blank. Other EcoTank models and cartridge printers have different procedures. Check the model label before using these menus.

01 / Before spending more ink

Keep the file. Stop the repeated jobs.

Save the original document. Cancel repeated print requests so an old job does not interrupt your comparison. In Windows 11: Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Printers & scanners → your Epson → Open print queue. Verify the printer name, then right-click each unwanted job and choose Cancel. Microsoft documents viewing the queue and canceling queued jobs. Canceling a request does not delete the saved original; you will need to send that request again if wanted.

Read any LCD error before continuing. Check the actual levels through the tank windows, rather than relying only on a software estimate. Epson says ink must remain above the lower tank lines; running below them can damage the printer. If ink is low, follow this model’s refill instructions before further printing or cleaning.

New printer, first fill? Finish initial ink charging before this checklist. Leave power on while charging; the power light stops flashing when it finishes. If charging appears stuck, follow Epson’s initial-charging troubleshooting rather than starting maintenance.

If no sheet feeds and the computer says offline, use the printer connection and queue guide. A connection failure needs a different comparison from a sheet that comes out blank.

02 / Test the printer without the app

Let a nozzle check choose the route

  1. With no LCD errors, extend the output tray and load a few sheets of plain paper.
  2. On the printer, press Home → Maintenance → OK. Press OK again for Nozzle Check, then press Start.
  3. Compare every printed line group with Epson’s three pattern examples. Keep the sheet and note the date.
All expected lines are present, with no gaps
Select No → OK to finish. Go to the document checks below. This shows the printer can produce that test pattern; it does not prove every app or print setting is correct.
Some lines have gaps, or the pattern is faint
The ordinary Head Cleaning route is appropriate after checking ink. A missing color is worth recording even if black text still prints.
All or most lines are absent
Select No. Epson directs this result to Power Cleaning, with extra prerequisites. Read the warning below before starting; do not substitute a rapid loop of ordinary cleanings.

Because this sheet starts at the printer’s controls, a missing pattern cannot be explained by the document’s page range alone. It still does not identify a failed printhead or justify buying a part.

03 / When the pattern is complete

Compare one simple page with the original

  1. Reopen the saved original and inspect its print preview. Choose a page that visibly contains text; check the page range and copy count. Match paper size, orientation, and layout to the paper loaded. Epson’s blank-page checklist specifically covers preview and those settings.
  2. Create a new one-page document with a few words of ordinary black text. Select the intended Epson printer, send one copy, and wait for that result before sending anything else.
  3. If the simple page prints, compare the original again. If practical, open a copy in a second suitable app. Change one setting at a time so you can identify what affected the result.

Only the original stays blank: investigate that file or its app’s print options. Every app job stays blank while the nozzle check prints: record the apps and selected printer, then seek printer setup and software help. These results narrow the next investigation; they do not certify the driver or rule out every printer fault.

Would “Skip Blank Page” fix this?

It can suppress an intentionally empty page in a document; it cannot restore missing ink on a page that should contain text. Epson’s Windows driver offers it under Printing preferences → Maintenance → Extended Settings. The option may differ or be absent with another driver, AirPrint, or a phone app. Use the model’s Windows/Mac instructions if the issue is extra empty pages between correctly printed ones. Keep an unchanged copy of your document before editing its layout.

04 / Match maintenance to the pattern

A cleaning cycle needs a stopping point

For a pattern with some gaps, use Home → Maintenance → OK → Head Cleaning → OK → Start, or follow the nozzle-check prompt. Epson’s control-panel instructions say to keep the inner cover closed and leave power on throughout the cycle. Wait until the power light stops flashing and the completion message appears, then run another nozzle check.

Do not keep pressing Clean.

If there is no improvement after up to three ordinary cleanings, turn the printer off and wait at least 12 hours. Then recheck the pattern before trying again. Epson allows another ordinary cleaning after that wait, then Power Cleaning if quality still fails to improve. You can stop and seek Epson’s advice sooner. Low ink must be addressed before head cleaning.

Mostly blank pattern? Read this before Power Cleaning.

Every tank must be at least one-third full. Power Cleaning uses substantial ink; insufficient ink can damage the printer. It also fills the waste-ink pads sooner; a pad at its service limit stops printing and needs Epson support. These are Epson’s Power Cleaning cautions, not a routine first step.

If you choose to proceed, confirm no LCD errors, extend the tray, load plain paper, and use Home → Maintenance → OK → Power Cleaning → OK. Follow the LCD instructions, then print a nozzle check. Wait at least 12 hours between Power Cleanings. If the first attempt brings no improvement, turn it off, wait, and ask Epson about the result before spending more ink. See the complete model-specific procedure. If a level or warning is unclear, stop before starting.

Keep a count of cycles already run today, including attempts before you found this guide. Do not use a tank-level reset, factory reset, syringe, solvent, or unofficial pad-counter tool as a substitute for these checks. Restoring defaults can reset network or all settings, adding setup work without providing a new nozzle-test result.

05 / One useful retest

Keep the evidence. Stop guessing parts.

Once the pattern is complete, print the same one-page text test, then one known-content page of the original. If both work, stop maintenance and resume normal printing. If only the original fails, return to its app and settings. If the pattern remains poor after the documented maintenance and waiting period, contact Epson before further cleaning.

Stop immediately at an ink-pad/service message, unresolved LCD error, leak, or inability to confirm adequate ink. Do not open the printer to flush its ink system. A source-based checklist cannot distinguish a blockage, ink-delivery problem, or failed part remotely.

Have these details ready

  • Exact model; when blank printing began; whether initial setup or a refill preceded it.
  • A photo of the nozzle pattern, visible tank levels, and the exact LCD message.
  • Ordinary/Power Cleaning counts, last cycle time, and whether the pattern changed.
  • Device, operating system, app, and results of the simple-page comparison.

Crop personal documents, Wi-Fi names, and serial numbers from anything shared publicly. For app or connection help, Hailey Device Repair’s printer setup page describes the existing service. For persistent printer-side quality or service warnings, use Epson support.

Sources & scope

Official Epson and Microsoft instructions checked October 19, 2026. This is an owner checklist based on those sources, not a hands-on printer diagnosis. Control-panel paths apply to ET-2800/ET-2803; the queue path is Windows 11. A Mac or phone can use the same printer-side pattern check without Windows menus.
